    1. Jonathan says:

A powerfully affecting novel from the brilliant author of one of my favourite books, The Boy I Love Marion Husband has written a book which is thoroughly absorbing, confronting the subject of parental sexual abuse Needless to say there are moments of great sadness and terror at what the main character Mark has to endure, but it is not overwhelmingly graphic, as the story revolves around the lives of all the characters who are affected by the actions of Mark s father Danny Even Danny is seen ulti [...]

    2. Jax says:

Strong warnings for graphic depictions of child and spousal abuse My rating is for the the fact that I tore through this in one day Marion Husband s writing really works for me That said, this book is dark and there wasn t really any relief from it.And I was left with a lot of questions view spoiler Why didn t Danny go to jail after Annette s death Mark s near death condition How was he allowed to have children Was there mention of Mark getting counselling Because there wasn t much evidence tha [...]

    3. Duane Colwell says:

This book is amazing It s on the verge of being depressing I suppose you d call it melancholy The originality of the story and the writing are excellent Seldom have I seen characters with their many flaws so clearly defined I was totally mesmerized by the story, by Ms Husband s style of feeding the reader bits and pieces as the story progresses, leaving plenty of time for guesswork prior to the reality The story speaks from several first person and third person characters, and skips around betwe [...]

    5. Gail Nelson says:

Moving tragic tale, yet hopeful in the end

    6. Hpstrangelove says:

Very moving, tragic tale, yet the ending left me feeling hopeful for all characters involved This story certainly won t be for everyone because of the aspect of child abuse The author does a fine job of showing how and why someone can love and hate their abuser all at the same time, and how that abuse can be passed on from generation to generation The people are all so human, flawed and damaged yet they continue to struggle through whatever life throws at them.I liked the way the story unfolded, [...]

    7. Gill's Great Book Escapes says:

This book is brilliant Marian Husband draws you in slowly I had a great sense of feeling the horror and despair created in its narrative The insight into the minds of those involved was so deep I felt like it was happening to me The story is surprising as it unfolds to a complexity that you do not see. This book leaves me with thoughts that I know will mull round in my head for a while yet.

    8. V.g. Lee says:

I was unprepared for this novel to be so upsetting which didn t make it any less compelling Without giving too much away, it is about rivalry between two brothers which goes back into early childhood and sexual abuse within families Coming myself from a troubled family background I found the story very believable and powerfully written.

    9. Rosie says:

Very hard subject matter The writing was awesome.

    10. Brenda Kittelty says:

Words fail me A difficult but bloody incredible read.

    11. Nancy says:

A heart wrenching story but wonderfully written.

    12. Fiona says:

I was disappointed with this, as the reviews were so good It didn t really do much for me I failed to connect or have any sympathy with the characters. The build up of the plot the events was well done, but I did think that parts were very self indulgent at the same time set out to shock the reader However I was not convinced by he story at all.I will try find some of her other books to read though as she writes well.
