Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION s Pack Alpha Michelle L Olson ARC provided by the Author in exchange for an honest reviewI have a handful of favorite Urban Fantasy series BLACK WINGS is definitely one of them, and while some series start to get a little stale by about book 5, this series just gets better, and better, and BETTER with each book that Christina releases My first words after finishing Black City were Whoa Just whoa Even darker, just as gripping, action packed as usual, and dare I sa [...]

    2. Julia says:

The Black Wings series has an enticing ecosystem of Agents of the Dead, angels, demons, fairies, and gargoyles Despite those natural advantages, however, I think it is time for me and Madeline Black to part ways Maddy has a very Hulk smash approach to life, and though she shows some flashes of self awareness in BLACK CITY, it seems admitting she has a problem has brought Maddy no closer to reforming her behavior.Beyond my issues with Maddy s recklessness, there is certainly a lot to enjoy in thi [...]

Review originally posted on my blog A Book ObsessionMaddy has had some pretty hard knocks From losing the love of her life, only to find out she s pregnant with his child, to losing her wings because she refused to compromise her beliefs, she s had a rough go Yet, she hasn t let any of this stop her from doing what she feels is right, such as destroying her own father before he could release a day walking vampire hoard upon humanity She thought she had stop his vile plan, but when vampires start [...]

    4. Lily says:

Black City by Christina Henry is the fifth book in the Black Wings Series and it picks right up where the fourth book Black Lament left off, with a Chicago under attack by vampires Vampires that are immune to the effects of the sun Maddy and her friends can t do anything to help, to save her city wings or no wings while the Agency refuses to interfere with other supernatural courts. Now the leader of the vampires is calling her out, announcing to the city if she turns herself in to him in 3 days [...]

    5. Megan says:

I think I have just lost interest in this series I was so so bored And I honestly skimmed a lot of the last half Maddie is basically all powerful And that s totally great but it just doesn t make for an interesting book No matter what happens, she finds some new power to get herself out of it I also really hate the romance part of this book I would not actually call it romance like lust that somehow make them powerful I would rather it just be a straight up action book I don t know guys I may [...]

    6. Celeste says:

Just for the record, she wasn t stripped of her wings, she gave them up willingly The pace continues to be insane, they plots continue to compete with each other, Maddy continues to have magical powers suddenly appearing for no other reason than she conveniently needs them And while some of these powers are supposedly spells, she doesn t have to learn shit She just magically knows what to do.

    7. Kristin(MyBookishWays Reviews) says:

mybookishways 2013 12 Because of Azazel s serum, vampires that are immune to the sun have overrun Chicago, and it s a full scale slaughter People are fleeing the city and it turns out, the vampire s head honcho, Therion, wants Maddy Black s head She figures he can get in line, but she knows she s got to stop the vamp takeover of her beloved city Unfortunately, pregnant and without her wings, Maddy isn t exactly at full strength, but it doesn t stop her from fighting, of course However, the vampi [...]

When I first began reading the Black Wings series I truly loved it However, after the first two books the series has been hit or miss with me Black City is a miss s for me I had so many problems with this story that I am left wondering is I should cut my losses and forget about continuing on with the series Here are the problems as I see them 1 Ms Henry overuses the sentence Gods above and below In the beginning of the book she used this phrase on every other page I found myself saying, Please n [...]

    10. Cassie's Lost Angel Song Says: says:

This Author certainly knows how to weave a tale I started it earlier, and just finished it view spoiler The book took you into the world of Maddy and never let you go From the Vampire attacks, to the blood exchange between Nathaniel which lead to the biggest and coolest twist of them all Something that I think will end up happening in later books, is the fact that that blood magic that they preformed is going to turn into some sort of marriage or something The fact that I believe Maddy is full o [...]

    11. Stacy says:

Spoiler s may be present BLACK CITY is the darkest of all the books so far in the Black Wings Series Maddy has lost her husband, she s pregnant, and people are trying to kill her at every turn With the vampires on the loose in her city people are dying left and right and Maddy jumps right in hoping to save people A lot happens in BLACK CITY, it s packed full of action, emotion and sticky situations.Maddy is a bit of a mess She has taken to putting herself in extremely dangerous situations agains [...]

    12. Cindy says:

Have you ever got on the Carousel and then found out it was the big roller coaster That s what this book felt like We know that Maddie is pregnant with her dead husbands sone Angel Gabriel We know she has a house full of men who only want to protect hereven her little house Gargoyle Beezle thinks he knows best how she should be living her life Her world is being systematically torn apart by vampires, demons, and the good guys What s up with that Maddie has only, ever looked to protect the innoce [...]

    13. Mara says:

Black City starts with a cliff hanger and ends with an other Its story starts the minute Black Lament ends It s not a stand alone read in any stretch of the imagination I m not sure what to think about it, as there are so many surprises and game changers What remains the same is the never stopping action, neither Maddy nor the readers have time to understand what s going on, to stop and think It left me reeling I m also unsure what to think about the characters Maddy seems faithful to her self, [...]

    14. Mary says:

I m disgusted she chose Nathaniel Seriously UGH Even if it wasn t so much a choice as the other option wasn t available, he still should have never been an option to begin with

    15. Teshai says:

I don t understand how her friends don t realize that she really has no choice in the decisions she makes If Lucifer asks you to do something, how the heck are you supposed to say no Her decisions also save these so called friends of hers Almost everything she does is for the sake of her people and that is how they deal with her The girl didn t ask for her idiot family ties Her gargoyle alone grates under my skin, like seriously, what is his purpose Then her brother law starts talking shit and h [...]

    16. Ashley says:

This series is getting better and better Is Maddie turning to the dark side Beezle her gargoyle thinks so That seems to be the underlying theme, but you know what you gotta do what you gotta do She is starting to remind me of the character Gin Blanco from the Elemental Assassin series that is a strong female lead, and fiercely loyal and protective of her friends and family.Maddie didn t ask to be Lucifer s Hound of the Hunt, she didn t choose to be an Agent of Death and yet everyone questions he [...]

    17. Rachel says:

This is book five in this series.I am still enjoying this story, however I do not like, nor agree with the romantic turn of events view spoiler I don t see that Nathaniel has changed that much from who he was at the beginning of this series, and the Maddy that Henry has created would not fall for that kind of man Like ever I was so hoping that she would figure out a way to bring Gabriel back I mean after all, she brought Evangeline back, right hide spoiler

    18. Zarah says:

Grasping at straws and quite sloppily written view spoiler I mean this is one step short of a sex pollen LOL hide spoiler but I am still hoping it will be better again I ll borrow though Not risking a buy of the upcomings, considering the less than stellar feelings the last two ones have given me

    19. Margaret says:

When I picked this one up, I wasn t sure I would be able to get through it It s been about 3 years since I ve read the last one, so it was a bit difficult to get back into I found myself actually interested in this story and enjoyed following Maddie s adventures I m interested in seeing where the next in this series will take the story.

    20. Leisa Feda says:

I still like the story and the back characters but I have to say after temper tantrums and mistreating her friends, I just don t like Maddie any I find her personality almost too annoying to keep reading but I have the books so I will push on I at least have to find out what happens to her friends that have left her for their own safety. Also would like to see if she beats Lucifer.

    21. Patty says:

Still love this seriesMaddy is showing a darker side in her thoughts and deeds This book still has the elements that I ve enjoed, humor and action, but dragged on a bit in places.

    22. K says:

      Another fun, quick read.

    23. Christina Pot says:

      Loved it

    24. Kay Vanity says:

Awful Unable to continue with this series and DNf at around 45%.

    25. Jessica (a GREAT read) says:

Seriously, I think Christina Henry is taking great pleasure in tormenting med the rest of her readers Once again she has written this incredibly, tremendous read and yet again, the ending has left me reeling Near screaming territorybut since I am in public I had to refrain from doing so Very, very hard Black City picks up where we left off in Black Lament and yeah, I am still in tears by Gabriel s death I remember asking her about that at RT 2012 I was in public and the book was still fairly new [...]

    26. Jen (That's What I'm Talking About) says:

My Rating 4 stars Enjoyed strongly recommend A for readers of the series Full Review here twimom227 2013 03 reviBlack City opens with a complete bang, sucking the reader into the story with intense and gruesome action Downtown Chicago is being overrun by day walking vampires, created from a formula Maddy s dad, Azazel, was working on before she killed him There are literally thousands of vampires massacring civilians in plain view of the public and media Maddy and her crew try to stop them, but [...]

    27. Heather Larcombe says:

Drat I have caught up to the series Will have to put Ms Henry on a watch list so I catch 6 when it comes out.

    28. Karissa says:

This is the fifth book in the Madeline Black series by Henry The sixth book will be titled, Black Heart, and is scheduled for an October 2013 release I really enjoyed this book, we learn a lot about Nathaniel s history and what made him who he is Maddy thought things would get better after Azazel was disposed of, but things have only gotten worse Vampires, who are now immune to sunshine, are flooding the streets of Chicago and slaughtering innocents When a vampire leader demands Maddy in exchang [...]

ARC, advanced review for kingsriverlifeThis one of the many books we get by the publisher to review and I am so happy as this series has gotten so good Full Review below Christina Henry s book series staring the angel of death and Lucifer s granddaughter Madeline Black has come a long way since book one Black Wings, and it is all for the better I wasn t really hooked into this series until the third book Black Howl where the overarching plot if the series really took a turn for the better.Christ [...]

    30. Zeenat says:

Synopsis Vampires can now walk in the daylight, just when Maddy lost her wings Maddy is trying to save the world, protect her unborn child, and move past the death of her husband But with everything going on around her, can she stop herself from crossing the line Review This series had a slow start The romance between Maddy and Gabriel dragged the books down But ever since his death, the books have gotten better and better The books are still short and go extremely fast On the plus side, there i [...]
