This book is an exceptional work for a first novel It was about a woman revisiting her past and learning to see that the life choices she made long ago brought her to where she is today, and that today s life choices will shape the rest of her life But it is so much than that As we look in on Amanda s life, we also delve into the lives of her mother Tilly, her childhood friend Cecil and her sister Penelope We also look at the hard choices that some the women from the Refuge House make and how t [...]

3.5 stars 3 here, and 4 on because I very much liked some aspects of the story but wished for in other areas I enjoy stories like this one in which two people who were childhood friends fall in love, but this is no ordinary love story Their situation is fraught with challenge and heartache The characters are beautifully drawn as flawed but endearing, and I hope Ms Graham writes a sequel SPOILER ALERT FOR WHAT FOLLOWS I would ve enjoyed some details about carving and detailing miniature rocking [...]

When I began reading The Rocking Horse of Tuscumbia, it took only a sentence or two into it before I knew I was in for a good Southern style read I remember settling into my comfy chair and smiling, knowing I was holding something special Sometimes a story can be strong enough to overcome okay writing In this case, the story and the writing are equally enchanting and complex I appreciate a good story as well as the skill it takes to craft a sentence that can make a reader feel, make a reader thi [...]

Kimberley Graham has penned an amazing story of betrayal, heartbreak, redemption, and love It felt like I visited Hellen Keller s small town and watched the lives of the characters unfold around me Great story

    5. Erin Samiloglu says:

Beautiful tale of a woman s stout fortitude against the prejudices of her time Lyrical and visual, Graham delivers a story of the unprecedented trials of a Southern girl s struggle with balancing her love for a man with the love for her God Whoever edited this book is really gifted too.

    6. Naomi Musch says:

Good work of women s fiction that held my interest, but at times I felt the pace lagged just a bit, and the jump to years later was a little abrupt Good debut book overall though.
