come on, look at that cover doesn t it make you smile i thought this was well told historically accurate without getting too bogged down in detail for young readers and the illustrations just cracked me the heck up so winsome i liked this author s book about the war of the worlds radio broadcast too maybe i ll get around to reviewing that someday she s got a nicely quirky sensibility and i love her character s googly eyes and grins couple of pages in the back have great resources for further rea [...]

To me this was one of those biographical picture books that was written by someone who might not have a lot of children s lit experience It read kind of like a history book for kids, and Jordan wasn t terribly interested The pictures were pretty cute, though.

INFORMATIONAL BOOKI chose to read Seabiscuit The Wonder Horse as my informational book because it relates very well to our setting Lexington, KY I had never heard the story of Seabiscuit and I have been volunteering weekly at the Kentucky Horse Park so I loved reading a horse story The characters were awesome and the book was exciting, even though it was an informational non fiction book. The illustrations were the best part of the book for me I loved the way that the illustrator made Seabiscuit [...]

3rd 6th Grade Read Aloud The kids really enjoyed this book We discussed how the book looks fiction because of the illustrations, but it is actually nonfiction This reinforces the fact that one must READ the book before putting it in a category This is a great way to introduce young students to the powerful, inspiring story of Seabiscuit We watched the actual race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral on You Tube The kids were cheering for Seabiscuit even though they knew he would win Great read alo [...]

    8. Sarah W says:

McCarthy provides a playfully illustrated introduction to Seabiscuit, a horse that raced in the 1930s In this short book, readers are provided glimpses into who Seabiscuit, jockey Red Pollard, fellow jockey George Woolf, owner Charles Howard and trainer Tom Smith Team Seabiscuit s rivalry with War Admiral plays a role, though it was justifiably condensed in its inclusion in this book.As a former camp counselor at a riding camp, I can say this book will appeal to horse lovers I love the expressio [...]

    9. Eva Kelly says:

Wow What a good one It s about a goofy looking horse who wins a big race and gets a whole lot of flowers at the end, and how excited everyone got And why not He was the fastest horse ever and made people happy. It was too hard to read myself but Mama read it to me.It had good pictures AND it was true I hope the other horse won sometimes too so he didn t feel bad.

This book looks fiction because of the illustrations, but it is actually nonfiction This reinforces the fact that students need to read the book before putting it in a category The story of Seabiscuit is a story of hope and perseverance It could be a used as a classroom read aloud and a great way to introduce young students to the powerful, inspiring story of Seabiscuit.

    11. Teri says:

Very well written true story of Seabiscuit The length was not too long, perfect for a children s bedtime story But the illustrations could be so much better Seabiscuit and War Admiral look exactly the same, goofy cartoon horses With realistic illustrations this book would be 5 stars run out at buy it for your library worthy.

    12. alex says:

We especially love the horses funny bugged out eyes, but having just listened to the nuanced portrayal of Seabiscuit in Come On Seabiscuit it was annoying to read the simplification here.Besides that, it s a great book for Leon to practice reading, and it does a great job of explaining why people loved Seabiscuit so much.

    13. Meredith says:

Big, big fan of the pictures, and the story was interesting I think the pictures are slightly misleading, though, since they lead you to expect a really funny story, and it s actually the story of Seabiscuit So, you know, inspirational Still, very enjoyable.

    14. Ginny says:

I read McCarthy s Showdog to Will and he loved it, so I got this one as well This one kind of reads like a kids history report on Seabiscuit the horse It did hold his attention but I prefer the funniness of Showdog instead.

    15. Lorna says:

Loved the playful cartoon style illustrations for this biography Readers learn how a handful of humans saw potential in this horse that went on to be a 1930s racing legend The main focus is on Seabiscuit s big race with War Admiral.

    16. Chrissy says:

I didn t know the story of Seabiscuit until I read this book I m not a fan of horse racing, but I think the way McCarthy depicts Seabiscuit is hilarious.
