      I really enjoyed this book for the information on the Ministry of Food, rationing, and other conditions during the Second World War in England, but I didn t get much of the thrifty wartime ways to feed your family today as promised by the subtitle It was entertaining and quick to read, but I only found a few of the recipes to be interesting.

      This book was exactly what I was wanting It s full of information about the food situation during the war years It includes copies of the propaganda posters used and recipes inspired by the food that was eaten at that time I borrowed this from the library, but I might need to get my own copy.

      A lovely book about wartime thrift in Great Britain written by Jane Fearnley Whittingstall, a historian and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall s mother River Cottage one of my favourite cookery shows.A blend of anecdotes and posters and advertisements with recipes.A great book for dipping into as well as some recipes which have stood the test of time.
