I always know I am enjoying a book when I find myself staying up past midnight to finish it That s what happened with this one and though I regret the loss of sleep I do not regret one word of the reading I love hearing about Alex Cross s rather unusual little family and it was sweet to hear about a new addition Apart from that the story was, as usual, action packed, fast moving and full of really nasty murders Just what I like The ending was particularly shocking and very sad It was also a mast [...]

    2. Tanya says:

HOLY COWMy mouth literally dropped open when I read the last sentence in this book To be completely honest, I read that same sentence like 5 times Holy chit, batman I am off to start the next book, Violets are Blue to see where this goes Holy cow

    3. Jessica says:

Ugh I ve read a handful of Patterson s books and none of them would qualify as good literature, but this one was particularly awful The writing is cliched and one dimensional, the characters are uninteresting, and the story tries to be so shocking that it actually ends up being predictable There are not enough clues to actually figure out who the bad guy is, so basically you just have to wait until they tell you and then you aren t surprised and don t care I didn t care when his girlfriend left, [...]

This book had me all over the place. But then again, it is a book written by James Patterson so I wasn t really shocked.Roses are Red was good but I don t know if it was my favorite I ve read so many and while this book didn t disappoint me at all it s just way to hard to pick a favorite book right now I m only on book 6 so I can t really be like OMG THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OUT OF THE WHOLE GOD DAMN SERIES because there s a shit ton of books within this series I want to read them all and then wh [...]

    5. Amanda McGill says:

Wow what a crazy ending Alex Cross is fighting a villain called The Mastermind The Mastermind sets up a number of bank robberies and takes the bank employee s families as hostages If everyone does what they are told then they are safe If not, they die There is no mercy or forgiveness.I enjoyed the mystery of Roses are Red I wished they spend time talking about the history of the Mastermind Maybe they will in the next novel I hate reading about Alex Cross s personal life I really don t care Some [...]

    6. Elaine says:

I can not begin to describe how much I hated this book Uninteresting, the main character wasn t particularly appealing, and the writing is terrible The end is a cliffhanger, and I could care less about getting the next book to find out the end of the story This is the first James Patterson book I read, and the last.

    7. David Erickson says:

I felt this wasn t the best of the Alex Cross series, but it was very good The wirting pattern makes it easy to set the book down and come back to it.The one thing that annoys me is that the biggest bad guy never seems to get his nailed While in some of the books, some of the bad guys are figured out and brought to justice, but dang I want to see the worst of the worst the mastermind nailed I know this makes it possible for a same theme sequel, but it leaves an unsatisfactory aftertaste.I purpos [...]

James Patterson doesn t disappoint I like when he makes the reader keep on guessing Guessing, guessing, guessing

    9. Thom Swennes says:

Generally I like books to have complete stories These stories have a beginning, middle and end and when I read the last page my mind evaluates or digests what I have read and I can then form an opinion Roses are Red by James Patterson isn t like his average stories Most of Patterson s novels begin by corralling the reader into his world and leading them down corridors with short chapters and never ending action Along this fast paced ride through the hall of suspense the reader gets flash impress [...]

    10. La TonyaJordan says:

Detective Alex Cross is a magnificent person This book is well written It shows family dynamics, friendships, love, and the suspense of never knowing whom the killer truly is until the end Days later you still can t believe who the killer truly is The unanswered question is will Detective Cross ever figure it out Must read for anyone who likes suspense.

    11. Kevin Wijas says:

Roses are Red by James Patterson is an exciting mystery that is led by D.C s top detective Alex Cross A group of professional bank robbers and their leader The Mastermind plan and execute perfect robberies while committing malicious murders of innocent people Crosses life is a mess throughout the book as he deals with family problems while trying to stop the craziest psychopath he has every seen This book is not only a great read but it also shows the importance of family life and how quickly so [...]

    12. Erica says:

Unfortunately, this is going to be my last James Patterson novel I think that there just comes a point where you realize you have outgrow certain authors and I haven t particularly cared for the last three Patterson novels I have read Sad to me, because I remember staying up ALL NIGHT to read Kiss the Girls in college I realized tonight that I don t want to read any JP and I don t want to read any John Grisham, so all of the rest of my unread novels of both of these guys great writers that the [...]

    13. Margaret says:

This book was sloppy It was never explained why the Mastermind became the Mastermind Solving the crimes was a series of unbelievable, unrealistic, and predictable lucky guesses by Alex Cross In fact, the robberies and the hostage situations became predictable as well The characters caught as the Mastermind came out of no where and were gone almost as soon as they were introduced providing no depth to the story A lot of chapters with very poor development in the plot.

    14. Lisa says:

Well holy crap This is one of the few times that this series has left me with a cliffhanger at the end of a book I guess I ll have to start the next one really soon normally by the end of the book you get the sense of how it s going to end Not this one Not this one AT ALL Ughhh why must I work in an office where I can t READ all day

    15. Lulu says:

Whew I m ready to start on book 7 Violets Are Blue

    16. Beth (Ducky) says:

      did thaT JUST

    17. Charlotte (Buried in Books) says:

Better than the previous 2 books. The story didn t get too crazy even though it was centred on a series of bank robberies which appear to have been carried out by different crews but the same person appears to be behind all of them a man they call The Mastermind He has a habit of wiping out the crews when the job is done But that s not all he does The Mastermind has a varied criminal career which includes kidnapping and rape as well as murder Can Alex track down the Mastermind On the home front t [...]

    18. 🔮⚡️Voracious says:

Oh My God I can t believe what I ve just read Roses Are Red book 6 in the Alex Cross series has given me goosebumps Action packed throughout, but perhaps not as gripping as previous books in the series, I was convinced this book would end up with a 4 star rating Until I got to the last page The very last page What a spectacular cliffhanger of an ending So now I m left with very little choice except to get straight to book 7.

    19. Matt says:

I feel like every time I read an Alex Cross book I am less impressed than before The bank robbing is fun, but overall there just isn t much to this book.

    20. Ron Bajrami says:

This book is about a man named Alex Cross, who is a homicide detective, who recently saved his beloved, from a mass murderer named, Weasel In the book, Alex Cross comes across a new case, where a so called, Mastermind, robs banks and kills all the hostages As he investigates the case, he recently breaks up with his beloved, and is depressed One of Alex Cross s main external conflicts, is for him to find the Mastermind and send him to jail One of his internal conflicts, is him trying to find a ne [...]

    21. Cindy says:

This series just keeps getting better This takes the reader through twists and turns and just when you think you know what s going on, well, think again The ending was a total surprise Patterson s staccato chapters move the story along and there s developments on the home front for Alex some good, some bad One bone to pick I hate discrepancies inaccuracies It comes off as lazy So I was a little annoyed when the story states that Hayfield, Virginia was 80 miles southwest of Washington, DC, almost [...]

    22. PaulPerry says:

A couple of friends have been recommending Patterson to me for ages, so when I saw this and the sequel Violets are Blue together in a charity shop i picked up the pair Patterson writes in short, punchy chapters and vivid detail, and i flew through the book, pulled forward by the pace It was, however, an entirely unsatisfying experience The writing is incredibly formulaic detective battling personal problems check the only man who can solve the case check increasing complications in his life chec [...]

    23. Adam says:

Amy and I found this book by the curb in a town in Germany, and picked it up on a whim After reading the first chapter 4 pages, maybe 1000 words, probably less , we both put it down because it has such an unbelievably unpromising start And there it remained, taunting me from a shelf in our apartment for about a month I finally picked it up yesterday at 4pm and four hours later, it was done After 130 chapters of absent character development, a random and generic plot and the regular use of italic [...]

    24. Stephanie Nalepa says:

Roses are Red is the sixth book in the Alex Cross series It follows Alex Cross as he tries to capture the Mastermind , who is behind several bank robberies and murders This was the second thriller that I ve read by James Patterson I definitely understand what so many others like about him His novels are fast paced, easy to read, keep you guessing, and this book was no different I found myself continually wanting to read to find out what would happen next Although I did enjoy this book for the m [...]

    25. Anna Koch says:

This book was just as good as the other Alex Cross books The story line wasn t as interesting in the beginning though It got better towards the end The ending was very surprising and you would never guess who would be the Mastermind I recommend this book to who ever read the first books for the Alex Cross series because the ending will shock you all I was going to take a break from reading the series and read something else, but the ending made it so I had to find out what was going to happen.

    26. John says:

ROSES ARE RED is of roughly the same literary quality as a Harlequin romance even still, it s the best Alex Cross novel up to this point since KISS THE GIRLS Finally, we get a bad guy who s actually somewhat interesting and can give Cross a run for his money Story wise, the book is entertaining enoughif you can get past Patterson s frequently abysmal writing.

    27. Wendy says:

Not a bad read The story held my interest but I lost respect for the main character, Alex Cross, in how he responded to his daughter s medical situation I found his response a little implausible.

    28. Ann says:

My first Alex Cross Great characters Lots of good plot twists.

    29. Jadrick Morrison says:

I m reading through the Cross series in order, exception being I haven t read the first one, yet I avoided James Patterson for many reasons I thought he was too main stream, a lousy writer, and believed everything else rud about him His first few Cross novels are superior thrillers I haven t read anyone who writes pure thrillers like this I m talking every chapter ends with a burning cliff hanger Critics are disgusted by his choppy style and chapters, but this is what makes a night owl thriller [...]

    30. Faye says:

Love Alex Cross, was so looking forward to his romance with the gorgeous Betsey Also glad AJ has come to stay.
