I couldn t read fast enough not because I wanted to be finished with the book, but because it was suspenseful and I was eager to read what was going to happen next As another reviewer mentioned, I was clued in to a couple things that were going to happen by the end of the book, but it didn t detract from the story for me The characters were vivid with a variety of personalities Most of us have come across some, if not all, of these types of people and can appreciate both the sense of camaraderie [...]

    2. Mary Ronan Drew says:

A murder mystery that tells its story from the point of view of patrol cops rather than detectives and emphasizes that all police officers work together to solve crimes The setting is River City, i.e Spokane, WA, and I recognized the streets and intersections in the radio calls The author is a 20 year veteran of the SPD.

    3. Una Tiers says:

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much police jargon Too many characters for development Mixed ending that made me wonder why I was able to finish the book.

UNDER A RAGING MOON Police Proc River City, Wash Cont VGZafiro, Frank 1st bookWolfmont, 2006 Trade paperback The police officers of River City are determined to stop a gunman who has been holding up convenience stores, becoming violent with each one Reminiscent of McBain s 87th Precinct, Zafiro presents an ensemble cast with the biggest difference being that these are uniformed officers, not homicide detectives and with that comes a realistic view of the challenges and frustrations they face, b [...]

    6. Terric853 says:

Half way through this book, I just gave up I have no idea what the point of it was supposed to be I presume it was supposed to be a novel about police officers in River City, a Washington town Each chapter focused on a different cop but the book didn t seem to move forward I was so bored, I couldn t force myself to finish.

    7. Lisa Hines says:

Great book. Not very often does a book grab on to my emotions the way this book did You really get to know these characters, feel their frustration, their pain One chapter actually had me in tears I am definitely going to be following this author Thank you for writing this book I absolutely loved it.

    8. Samantha Clysdale says:

I really in joyed the series I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

    9. Black Butterfly says:

FOR ME I DIDN T CARE FOR THE WRITING STYLE, SORTA SLOW AND WORDY WITH A VERY LARGE CAST OF CHARACTERS I THINK IT WOULD MAKE A BETTER VISUAL movie THAN READING, NOT SO MUCH.

    10. Bonnie Drummond says:

This one will be with me for a while This Author Frank Zafiro should have 1000 GOLD STARS for the series River City Crime Mystery because it gives a look into what goes on with these BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO WEAR A BLUE UNIFORM Under a Raging Moon book 1 in the River City Crime Mystery by Frank Zafiro shows friendship, rivalry among the ranks, bad guys vs good guys, lose of friends and marriage, and the knowing that the really really really bad guys will be caught DEAD OR IN THIS CASE DEAD If you [...]

    11. Cyndy says:

Good police procedural with lots of policemen on the day shift and the night shift all after the guy with the scar that is robbing convienence stores and can t be caught.

    13. Debra says:

In addition to coping with personal problems, the police officers of River City, Washington are trying to catch the suspect behind a string of violent convenience store robberies The escalating danger is taking its toll on the graveyard shift in particular.Under a Raging Moon provides revealing insights into the day to day operation of a police department Not many authors of police procedurals bother with details about report writing and equipment checks, but for me it adds authenticity In fact, [...]

    14. Quentin Feduchin says:

Quite an unusual crime book, surprisingly. One would think that with so many police crime novels there would be little left But here is someone who has lived the life for twenty years and knows what it s like, day by day.So he writes from the points of view of four or five police people and the narrative gains in authenticity thereby.A really impressive and believable series of events, leading to a knowledgeable and believable climax.I really liked it and will read the follow up stories Just fini [...]

    15. Beth says:

Some reviewers have compared this book to Wambaugh and McBain The book, while not bad, is derivative of both authors without the writing ability or humor of either. There s a bit of a spoiler in this paragraph, so you may want to skip to the next As soon as one character was introduced I said, oh this guy is dead And then I knew exactly when it was going to happen That probably isn t what the author wants in what is supposed to be a suspenseful story. That being said, it s obvious the author knows [...]

    16. Lynnett says:

I definitely liked the story, mostly because it was like working at a police station again The first couple of chapters felt like a cop bitching about his job But the unique way in which the story unfolded was similar to giving a teaser but not giving you the goods till at least two or three commercials have passed I kept reading to find out There are still unanswered questions, but not ones that are pivotal to the plot I was hoping that the big ass wipe would have been caught being an ass wipe [...]

    17. Don says:

CopsA book about the lives of varied cops and their trials and tribulations I honor police men and women for the difficult times they suffer, especially since Obama placed a price on their head by constant condemnation and ridicule I pray Trump will make it so difficult for cop killers that all will fear to even think about harming them This novel has plenty of unique characters, fast paced action and excellent plots It also has real life incidents that is not pleasant reading but is something e [...]

    18. Paul Fussner says:

Fantastic Book I brought this book with me for my vacation to fill the times when I didn t have any other things to do, as it turns out I found myself making time to read this book it was just so riveting I couldn t put it down.If your a cop or know anyone who is a cop you have got read this book After you ve read this book you might better understand the dedication policemen and policewoman have for our safety.I want to thank the men and women who go to work every day to serve and protect so we [...]

    19. Pattianne says:

Zafiro has created a gritty, realistic world out of his own years of experience as a law enforcement officer In Under a Raging Moon, as serial gunman is plaguing River City, Washington, and becoming progressively dangerous and violent The police are eager to stop him, but internal politics and fate hamper the investigation and capture And, the police officers themselves are dealing with their own personal demons and crises, which adds both tension and humanity to the mix This intriguing, exciti [...]

    20. Francis says:

There were a lot of things I liked about this book It had good characters, good dialog and was well paced Ultimately however, I felt a bit let down The problem for me was the all too familiar stock ending of blood and body parts strewn about. So here is my plea to all the mystery and crime writers of the world about you create tension, drama, character insight and maybe rely a little less on piles of maimed and beaten corpses Because for many of us, a mere one, will often suffice. And yet despi [...]

    21. Kathy says:

Good police proceduralThis book follows the shifts of several police patrol officers as they deal with day to day crime in their city We get detail of their working hours, in a city on alert with convenience store robberies and a robber escalating in violence,as well as mundane police work We get to glimpse the lives of the off duty officers, their interests, joys, and sorrows.

    22. Gary Sedivy says:

Good read Although I do not know any police officers personally, this novel seemed real The way the officers used the radio, the short hand calls the tension during a situation the periods of boredom punctuated by adrenalin and panic seemed to be accurately portrayed The emotional stress with spouses, the problem with being in a high stress job also were well protrayed This book was not boring.

    23. Marla Madison says:

I found this book a little hard to get into Because of the multiple characters, it took a while to come together I was gladI stuck it out An excellent police procedural and insight into the psyches of many different police personalities The storylinefollows the twists and turns associated with one criminal who manages to slip through the police s net than once, and howhunting him down effects all of their lives A good read.

    24. Quillracer says:

Under A Raging Moon reminds me of Joseph Wambaugh s early books and Ed McBain s 87th Precinct series. And that is a good thing.McBain passed away in 2005, putting an end to his great novels, and Wambaugh hasn t delivered in his last few books in my opinion It s good to see another author step up and deliver a very realistic police procedural. If you miss McBain and Wambaugh, give Frank Zafiro a try You won t be disappointed.

    25. Cynthia Pauwels says:

In UNDER A RAGING MOON A River City Crime Novel, author and retired police officer Under a Raging Moon coverFrank Zafiro goes past the veneer of the job that the public sees, past the inner departmental workings that I was privy to, and delves into the hearts and minds of the patrol and command officers of the River City Police Department And it s unsettling.Read the rest of my review here clpauwels 2014 10 15 my vi

    26. Karen says:

An unusual selection for me This book reminds me of Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blues and other shows about police officers. This book seems like a series of short stories about the various officers on the River City Squad but gelled in the end It is well written and the character development is good If you like cop books you will like this for sure.

    27. Mary Rowe says:

Intense yet somehow clinicalDetail about the routines in a patrol car, discrete characters with distinctive personalities, angst and cold blooded killers mixed together on both sides of the badge Despite being set on mean streets, the narrative seemed sterile Not a criticism, just an observation.

    28. Susan B says:

By the end of the book I was sure the author was a cop the writing and details were great I couldn t put the book down, I highly recommend if you like police stories Characters were all very interesting and felt very bad with the the deaths of so many officers One becomes so involved with their stories that you definitely need to read he next novel.

    29. Uwe says:

As an ex cop I understand the story, the feelings and a bit What I didn t like about the book was how it was written There was just to much police language in it what makes it sometimes boring and I think it was not necessary anyway Keep it simple, have a good story, good characters and a lousy boss in it hey that s it

    30. Robbie says:

Though I own 6 of Frank Zafiro s books, this is the first one I ve read I have to say, I m sorry it took me so long to get around to reading it It was well written, well edited and there was plenty of action and reality to the story Almost too much reality Looking forward to reading by Mr Zafiro I rated it 4.5 stars.
